Eight questions, in three groups
These are the eight questions Lantern Table Kitchen is asked most often, grouped by what they are about. Every answer opens where it sits, so nothing on this page needs JavaScript, and the index below goes straight to one of them.
Service
How does a visitor choose between the lunch plate and the soup?
Read the two descriptions on the Services page and choose by appetite, because only one of each is made. The house lunch plate is a single dish written on the board by eleven from that morning’s delivery, and the soup is made once and not restocked, so it stops when the pot is empty. Both are served with bread from the same oven. Anyone wanting certainty should arrive early rather than telephone ahead, because neither dish is held back.
Are the prices on the Services page final?
Three of the six prices are final for the scope described beside them. The seasonal breakfast and the pastry selection carry a “from” figure because the plate changes with the delivery, and the private table enquiry is quoted in writing for the group and the date. In each of those three the exact amount is confirmed before anything is agreed. No service charge is added at the table, and nothing is charged through this website.
What should a first-time visitor know before walking in?
Lantern Table Kitchen seats twenty-six and takes walk-ins for every seat except the long table. The door opens at eight and the counter is at its widest in the morning; the pastry shelf is thinnest after two, and the kitchen says what has run out rather than substituting something at the same price. The room is one floor, level from the pavement on Lantern Row, with a counter along one side and a long table of ten at the back.
Can the long table at the back be held for a group?
Yes, and it is the only thing the kitchen holds in advance. The long table seats ten and is arranged through the private table enquiry: a message names the date, the number of people and anything the kitchen should know, and a written reply confirms the date and the quoted amount before it is held. Nothing is held until that reply is sent. The remaining sixteen covers stay open to walk-ins throughout.
Still deciding
When the four answers above do not settle it, one message is faster than a fifth read. Name the date, the number of people and the two dishes under consideration, and the kitchen replies with the one that fits.
Contact
Does this website reserve a table?
No. Every Book action on this website opens the contact page, and sending that form starts a conversation rather than confirming a seat. The form is read during opening hours and answered in writing, and no message is treated as a reservation until that written reply is sent. For the twenty-six ordinary covers no reply is needed at all, because those seats are taken by walking in.
How is a held long table changed or cancelled?
Send the change to the address the written confirmation came from, or telephone during opening hours. A change of date, a change in the number of people and a cancellation are all handled the same way, and the kitchen confirms the new arrangement in writing before it stands. A message arriving outside opening hours is read on the next day the kitchen is open, so a cancellation for the following morning is better made by telephone.
Practical
Can the kitchen answer a dietary question before a visit?
Yes, and before a visit is the right time to ask. One lunch plate and one soup are made each day, so the kitchen cannot always offer an alternative at the table, and a question sent through the contact form is answered in writing during opening hours. Name the ingredient rather than the diet where that is possible. The bread, the pastry and the plate share one oven, which matters to anyone avoiding gluten entirely.
What happens to the details sent through the forms on this website?
The contact form passes the message and the reply address to the kitchen, and the subscribe form stores an email address only. Neither is used for anything else, and neither is sold or passed to a third party. The Privacy page sets out what each form collects, why it is collected, how long it is kept and how to ask for it to be removed. Every subscribe message carries an unsubscribe link.
