About the crew
Cedar Row Landscapes plans, plants and builds gardens from a base in Burlington, Vermont.
The crew takes on planting beds, raised beds, stone paths, dry stone walls and seasonal maintenance. Work is done by the four people shown on the staff page, with their own tools, and the person who walks a site at the first visit is generally on the crew that builds it.
Every job begins on the ground rather than with a price list. What the soil and slope will allow, what the site already has that is worth keeping and what the owner actually wants are settled in that order, and the figure follows from them.
Three operating principles

The price is agreed before the work
A from price is a starting figure. The figure that matters is confirmed at the site visit, and it does not move afterwards without the owner being asked.

The site decides what is possible
Soil, slope, light and drainage set the limit. Where a requested plant or structure would not survive the site, the crew says so rather than attempting it.

One crew, start to finish
A job is not handed on to another firm. Whoever marks out the site carries the work through, so nothing is lost between the plan and the ground.
What happens, in four steps

Get in touch
Send the property type and the result wanted through the contact form. The reply says which photographs would help and which days a visit can be made.

Step 2
Arrange a site visit
The area is walked, measured and marked out with the owner. This is where the price and the plan are agreed.

Step 3
The work is built
Beds, paths or walls are built to the marks. A change of plant or material, where one is needed, is agreed with the owner before it is made.

Step 4
Walk round and check
The finished work is walked with the owner before the crew leaves. An adjustment within the agreed plan is part of the same job.
What the crew does not do
Cedar Row Landscapes plants and builds at ground level. It does not fell large trees, install irrigation systems, pour concrete or asphalt, or plow snow. Where a site needs one of those, the crew says so at the site visit rather than taking the job on.
