What customers have said

Six comments, each numbered and each linked to the service it refers to. Between them they cover what the shop is asked for most often: brakes, warning lights, suspension, used-car checks and routine maintenance.

The brakes had started grinding on the way to work and I assumed everything needed replacing. The rotors were measured in front of me, and the fronts were still inside the thickness stamped on them, so only the pads were changed. I was told to leave the rears alone. The price on the estimate was the price on the invoice, and the old pads were in a bag on the passenger seat.

Another shop had read the code and replaced an oxygen sensor, and the light came back two days later. Here the fault was traced to a cracked vacuum hose behind the intake, and the smoke test was shown to me on the technician's screen. The diagnostic fee came off the repair, and the light has stayed off for four months.

There was a clunk over every speed bump for months. The car went on the lift and I was shown the play in a lower ball joint and a sway-bar link that had worn through. The alignment was on the estimate from the start instead of added at the end, and the steering wheel now sits straight on the highway for the first time in years.

I was about to buy a used SUV from a private seller and paid for an inspection first. The report found a weeping rear main seal and front tires six years old, with a rough cost beside each item. I used it to take eleven hundred dollars off the price, and the seller agreed because the photographs were right there in the report.

A basic oil change, but the checklist came back with the tire pressures set, a note that the cabin filter was due soon and the wiper blades starting to streak. Nothing was fitted without asking, and when I said the filter could wait, that was the end of it. The car was ready in under an hour, as the reply had said it would be.

The car would not start two cold mornings in a row and I expected to be sold a battery. The battery tested fine; the alternator was undercharging. The difference was explained with the meter readings, the alternator was replaced at the price quoted, and the car has started first time every morning since.

The make, the model and what the car is doing is enough to start. The shop replies with the drop-off times a bay can take it.
