One control room, one booking at a time
Ridgeline Sound Rooms opened on Foundry Walk to record a small number of sessions properly and to publish what each one costs. This page explains how that works in practice and where it stops.
The approach, in three acts
- 01 Welcome
- 02 Method
- 03 What to expect
-
Act 01
Welcome
Ridgeline Sound Rooms is one control room, a live room and a vocal booth on Foundry Walk, and it runs one booking in them at a time. A session does not start with a contract: the date, the service and the number of players are named in a message, and a written reply confirms the amount before anything is held. A date can be held for seven days at no charge.
-
Act 02
Method
The engineer hears the room first and places the microphones second. Two microphones are tried on any source where the choice is close, and both are played back rather than chosen silently. Headphone mixes are set before the first take, and every take is logged in writing as it is recorded. Prices sit beside each scope on the Services page: three are final, two carry a “from” figure and one is quoted in writing, and the exact amount is confirmed before anything is agreed.
-
Act 03
What to expect
An artist should expect to be told what a day will not reach. Eight songs will not be tracked well in one day, and the studio says so in the first reply rather than at six in the evening. Questions about access, equipment and the number of players are answered in writing before the session, and a reply arrives during opening hours.
Three operating principles
-
Publish the price
Every service carries a figure on this website. A “from” price is the lowest price for the stated scope, never an opening bid.
-
Say what a day will not reach
A song list that will not fit the hours is said so in the first reply. The studio does not book a day it cannot finish at the figure named.
-
Confirm before holding
A message is an enquiry. Nothing is held until a person at the studio has replied and named the date, the scope and the price.
The four steps of an enquiry
-
Read the scope and the price
The Services page states what each service includes and what it costs.
-
Send one message
Name the service, the date and the number of players. A telephone number is optional.
-
Read the reply
The studio answers during opening hours, confirms the scope and states the exact price.
-
Agree the session
Only then is the date set aside, and the confirmation comes in writing.
What the studio does not do
Expectations
The studio is closed on Monday and closes at 6:00 PM on Sunday, and it does not run sessions outside those hours. It does not rent the rooms without an engineer, does not record two bookings at once, and does not hold files back pending an extra fee. The live room takes up to twelve performers at one time. This website sends messages and shows prices; it does not confirm a session.
Contact
Ask before a first session rather than on the day
Access needs, equipment questions and the number of performers are all answered in writing. A reply comes during opening hours.
