A workshop on Clearspan Road and a drawing for every job

Clearspan Comfort Works keeps a sheet for every system it looks after: what is installed, what was read, what was changed and when. A returning call starts from that sheet rather than from scratch.

The firm was set up around one working rule: no part is fitted before a reading explains why it is needed. That rule costs bookings, because it turns some same-day calls into a diagnostic visit and a wait. It is kept because the alternative is a customer paying for a part that was guessed at, and then paying again when the guess turns out to be wrong.

Equipment is drawn rather than described. A sketch of the plant room with the run of the ductwork on it survives a change of technician in a way that a sentence in a notebook does not, and it is what makes a second visit start where the first one finished. The annotated photograph on the home page is the same habit shown at full size.

Three things the firm holds to

  • The reading comes before the part

Nothing is replaced on a hunch. If a reading does not explain the fault, the next step is another reading, not another invoice.

  • The figure is the figure

A published price applies to the published scope. A change in scope is quoted before it is carried out, never invoiced after.

  • A decline is an answer

Work that is not worth doing is declined at the visit, with the reason. That is a shorter conversation than a system that fails again in a month.

The four steps between an enquiry and a finished job

  1. Step 1

    Enquiry

The contact form or the telephone. A preferred technician can be named; availability is confirmed separately.

  2. Step 2

    Diagnostic visit

Readings taken and written down, the fault explained in plain words, and the options set out with a figure against each.

  3. Step 3

    Scope agreed

The written scope is accepted before any part is ordered. Parts that have to come in are named at this point, not later.

  4. Step 4

    Work and handover

The agreed work, the same readings taken again, and a note of what was changed kept on the system's own sheet.

What this website does

This site publishes the firm's services, prices and hours and carries a contact form. It does not confirm an appointment. The Book action sends the visitor to the firm's configured booking destination, and a date is only ever confirmed by the firm directly.

Start with a diagnostic visit

Readings first, written down and shown, with the options set out before anything is fitted.

Seasonal notes, occasionally

An email when the seasonal tune-up window opens or a filter schedule is worth a reminder. No fixed schedule, and one link in every message removes an address from the list.
